During one of the hottest stretches of the day, a small group of creamtopi have gathered underneath one of the umbrella tables I have set out for customers. Thankfully, most people are letting them rest peacefully… but I've had to shoo off a couple rowdy baos who keep trying to disturb their peace.
I brought out a big bowl of shaved ice for the crowd. They seem grateful… and that just warms my stuffing to the core. They're… so darn cute…
Today, during the early morning hours once more, I spotted a lone creamtopus with a chipped cone. Sadly this is not my friend with the weird mark, but but this creamtopus was friendly nonetheless. It seemed quite displeased with mango sherbet, but enjoyed the peach sherbet I had in the back of my freezer for a rainy day. Well… it isn't raining, but the snack came in useful in one way or another.
I do have to wonder… is a creamtopus' hankering for sweet treats universal, or does each one have a preference? All I can conclude is that they at least have minor preferences in what they DO eat.
It really is too hot to be out for too long without taking a dip in the water—so once more, creamtopi have gathered under my umbrella tables and counters to hide from the dastardly sun. Lucky for them, since I don't have as many customers today I can experiment with making new treats… and the general creamtopus populace can snack on the duds.
The creamtopus with a weird mark on its head has returned! For most of the day until closing, my friend kept me company at the cash register. Maybe I should think of a name for them…
My weird mark creamtopus compatriot has met and made friends with the chipped cone creamtopus. Vanilla and chocolate… what a nice combo. Despite having a small scuffle over whether or not their shared cream soda should have a scoop of mango or peach sherbet on top, they've gotten along well with each other. They also seem to be… "representatives" of their kind to the baos milling about the beach today. It's nice to see their efforts working for the betterment of creamtopus kind… and the diversity of the treats they get.
A discovery of note: creamtopi DO indeed have preferences for treats other than sweets. My two creamtopi friends served a third a sandwich, and it fished out only the ham to eat. How interesting.
It's the beginning of a new week, and I've decided to make a bit of promotional material — buy a small scoop of ice cream for a creamtopus, get a free small scoop in return. So far, it's turned out to be quite the lucrative deal for both baos and creamtopi alike. I've already run out of my allotted stock for today! Going forward—at least for the rest of the summer—I'll have to order a wider range of frozen treats.
Also, I've put some chocolate wafer sticks in the freezer for a minute and let my two odd creamtopi friends try them out. They seem to enjoy it so much, they've taken the container to their friends. I do hope that container ends up in the proper disposal bin eventually…
