Tulipen in the Rose!

Bonnie gasped softly as she looked over the flower arrangement.

She’d just recently started her journey over to New Bao City, and already she was super excited to see all of the stalls - so many baos were selling so many interesting things! She could hardly even contain her excitement. She’d already run around looking at all the amazing shops - from food, to games, to even balloons, she was having a grand time!

But… this little stall felt different, somehow! It wasn’t selling something for nourishment or general entertainment… they were flowers!

Something just meant to be beautiful… it made her smile. She usually didn’t stop and smell the roses… in this case, literally. To be able to see and smell a fresh batch up close actually made her grin… she wondered if she had enough beans to afford a bouquet!

“Excuse me!” She asked, raising a paw up to get the shopkeeper’s attention. “Your flowers are very pretty! How much would a bundle cost?”

“Thank you!” The shopkeeper smiled as they chuckled. “I grew them all myself! Each batch has a different cost depending on the flower, though - so go look around for which one’s your favorite first!”

“Oh, okay!” Bonnie smiled as she began to take a sniff of each flower. The daisies were pretty, but didn’t have too strong a scent… the lavender was a bit overwhelming, though! But then…

“Oh!”

One of the roses she was sniffing opened up - it seemed like it was just on the verge of blooming - and in it was a tiny bird!

“Excuse me— excuse me again!” She said, waving her paw in the owner’s vision again. “There’s a bird in one of these flowers!”

“Oh, is there?” The owner leaned over, and a bright smile spread across their face. “Ah, that’s a tulipen! They’re sometimes born when a flower blooms. If you buy that one, you can keep it— some baos say they make great pets!”

“Okay! How much for that bouquet of roses, then?” Bonnie checked her pockets - she had about fifteen beans left from her adventures!

“Well, roses are pretty hard to grow! The whole thing would be about fifty beans.” The shopkeep smiled, but Bonnie’s expression fell.

“Oh… I only have fifteen,” She said, glancing back into her wallet.

“Well, you don’t have to buy the full batch!” The shopkeep picked the rose from the bunch, handing it to her. “A single rose just costs ten! If you just buy this one, you can keep the friend, too.”

“Oh!” Bonnie smiled wide as she handed over the beans, taking the rose in her other paw. “Thank you so much!”

“Don’t mention it!” The shopkeep waved as Bonnie left on her further adventures. “Take good care of that tulipen, now!”

“I will!” Bonnie called back, humming quietly to herself as she went on her merry way.
