Nessie and Neo get a snack!

The bao was carrying the most delicious treat she had ever seen. It must be from the bake sale. Nessie had been trying to swipe treats off the table all day. Much to her dismay, Brezel was always one step ahead and successfully prevented Nessie from getting any. So, the green baobear switched tactics. She was going to go after the treats purchased by other baos.

“Kekeke…,” she laughed quietly while she peered around the corner from her hiding spot. “He doesn’t suspect a thing.”

Neo couldn’t believe it! Brezel had just one more of her super special ice cream sandwiches! And he got it! Granted, there were quite a few other pastries that caught his eyes. But he had such a fondness for anything ice cream. Even if he constantly tripped and dropped his ice cream. It was a curse, but he tried to stay strong. He was none the wiser to the gaze of the other bao, simply enjoying the day. 

It was time, he took one big bite of the sandwich, eyes sparkling, “This… is the best!” He exclaimed, nearly gasping. His guard was so low, it was practically gone. 

She watched him bite into the sandwich. I better hurry before the sandwich is gone! Nessie moved forward, making sure her steps were soft. Right when she was next to him, ready to snatch it out of his paws, was when the victim suddenly fell. It all happened so fast, she wasn’t even sure she was seeing right. Nessie rubbed her eyes. Where did he go? When she heard a painful moan from the ground, she looked down and saw the baobear, including the now-smashed ice cream sandwich.

It all happened so fast to him as well. One moment, he was in heaven. The next, he was on the floor. This… was unfortunately normal for Neo. But it still hurt. The bao just looked at the sandwich that was now about a foot away. With a tiny whimper, tears began to form. How could this happen again? Whyyyyy!? He rolled over onto his back, noticing the other bao, “....Oh, hi.” He whimpered, looking just absolutely pitiful.

Her goal was to rob him, but now he was looking up at her, hopeless. Nessie felt bad even though she wasn’t going to do him any favours previously.

“Erm..are you okay?” She asked while rubbing the back of her head awkwardly. The sandwich was a loss, there was no saving that. Before he even responded, she knelt down and tried to help Neo up. What does she do now?

He realized how silly he looked. Now he probably made the other bao feel bad. He sobbed a bit, “I-I’m fine, I just fell. Thank you…” Not wanting to fall again, he let her help him up. This always happens… He tried his best to shake it off, “It’s just so sad. That treat was so good… I wanted to just eat it all.” 

Taking a deep breath, Neo tried his best to think. Although flustered, his kind heart felt bad that this bao went out of her way to help, “Um… Thank you for helping me… Do you wanna go with me to get another? I hope there’s more left. They’re really good!”

Unable to refuse due to his genuine invitation, Nessie nodded. “Totally!” This was not in her plans, but now she was stuck. 

They both walked towards the treats table, and already Nessie could see Brezel glaring at her. Uh oh. Nessie signaled to Brezel not to say anything, despite Nessie being a complete nuisance to the Trendy Treats duo. 

“Well, well, well…look who’s here,” Brezel crossed her arms.

Nessie jumped in front of Neo, trying to intercept the baker from saying anything more. “We are here to get some treats, aren't we?” She chuckled nervously, turning back to Neo.

Neo, an innocently naive bear, didn’t quite grasp the vibe. He was too focused on the matter at hand. How he made a complete fool of himself in front of another bear and lost his precious treat. He had to make things right. He HAD to get another snack! A small sense of determination overtook him.

He then brought his attention back to the other bears. He nodded, “Yeah! I’m sorry, Brezel, I tripped and dropped my ice cream sandwich… She was nice and helped me, so I wanted to get us some more!” He put his little paws together, looking oh so hopeful, “Do you happen to have any more ice cream sandwiches?”

Neo was too genuine for this world; the more he spoke, the more Nessie felt like she was in debt to him. Augh… “Please Brezel…tell us you have more?” She put her paws together and pleaded alongside Neo.

Brezel narrowed her eyes at Nessie, but relaxed her face when she turned to the other baobear. “They’re made fresh just for today, so you are in luck.” She turned around to grab two from the freezer. When she turned back around to collect the beans, Nessie had extended her paw first with the beans, surprising Brezel. “Wha–”

“It’s on me,” Nessie said. Her eyes darted over to Neo. “I hope it’s as good as you say it is!”

With that, Neo’s eyes lit up, “Yes!” He was nearly drooling, “Thank you so much! Wanna go sit over there and eat?” He motioned to a nice spot in the shade. A perfect spot to eat a sweet treat, “I’ll buy drinks than, too! Maybe two hot chocolates?” He held out some beans as well. After all, snacks are best enjoyed with friends!
