The Wishing Well

There was nothing more enticing than a bowl of potato gnocchi. When Bao woke up this morning, he half-mindedly gobbled up the last of his potato gnocchi that he was planning to save for dinner. There is no greater travesty than not having a hearty meal before bed, Bao thought. And thus he set out to the wishing well to amend his mistake. If the lake spiric cannot fix this, then there was no hope, and Bao would have to have toast for dinner like he should have for breakfast that morning.

He packed up his bag, filled with a bunch of rocks, which he realized once setting out on his journey was NOT a good idea, and thus he laid all the rocks out in a row and examined them, finding the best looking rock to bring as an offering. The one he chose was potato in shape, with a shiny luster to it. Bao nodded, believing a potato shaped rock was the best sort of offering for the lake spirit to ask for more potato gnocchi. It was very fitting.

The journey to the lake was a nice and serene one, with the excitement being almost tangible the closer Bao got to the wishing well. He found himself drooling more than once just thinking about the potato gnocchi. When he got closer to the well, he noticed a lovely flower beside the lake. There was nothing spectacular about the color, but the shape was pleasant and neat, and Bao thought this would be a lovely additional offering. In fact, he thought to wrap the potato-shaped rock up in the stem of the flower, with the flower sitting atop.

With a more than satisfactory offering at hand, in his opinion, Bao decided to head back to the trail. It did not take long for him to arrive at the well, and the glistening of the lake in the distance in addition to the soft wind that tickled his fur made the experience very peaceful. It was at that moment, Bao decided to change his wish. Toast or not, if he was given a chance to wish for something, it should be something more than a single meal.

Bao pulled out his flower-wrapped rock and held it in his paws for a few moments. He shut his eyes tightly and took a deep breath, tossing the rock into the wishing well. He kept his eyes closed until he heard the ker-splunk of his offering hitting the water at the bottom of the well, and then even a few seconds after that.

I wish for more days like these.
