Apartment Plants

Bonnie’s first attempt at gardening wasn’t exactly at a large or grand garden - really, it all started in her tiny little apartment, with a pot, some dirt, and a “how-to garden” book.

The windowsills in her apartment always looked awfully bare. She tried setting up candles on them before, but then her apartment banned them on account of them being a fire hazard… and she had nothing else pretty to put there.

But then she saw a little sprout in one of her neighbors’ windows, and she knew - that’s what she wanted to do.

She carefully emptied the bag of dirt into the pot, patting it down flat, before getting some water in a cup from her sink, pouring it over it to make it moist. Then, checking the book carefully, she took a packet of mixed wildflower seeds she had bought that morning, opening them and placing a few gently, poking them down into the soil, and patting some more dirt down on top of them.

Last of all, she whispered a little to it. “I’m so excited to see you grow.”

She picked up the pot again, placing it on the windowsill just right so that it would get enough sun to sprout.

A few days later, she saw the seedlings, and thus her gardening journey began.
