❀ MYO Questline (Parts 1-7) ❀
A young boy in a busy yet dingy restaurant conjures up a tiny little bear from a few leftover ingredients...alongside a talisman that says "我爱你"—he believes that the message of "I love you" will add an extra little bit of luck and love and happiness to this baobear. His hands move swiftly as he works, evidence of him having grown up in this very restaurant. And yet, he seems soemwhat anxious, especially as voices call for him to return to work just as his new baobear friend has finished steaming.
The baoberry doesn't quite understand what is going on, and after the young boy leaves to attend to more customers, he crawls out of the steaming basket to explore—and to find some good food. Fortunately for him, he finds plenty, from soft mantou to delicious huajuan. And very soon, this little baoberry decides huajuan is his new favourite food!
It isn't long until he's caught, however, and after being chased off by a particularly grumpy-looking chef, the little bear finds himself wandering out into the alleyway of the kitchen. Being new to the world, he doesn't quite understand what this place is. All he can really think of is wanting to get back inside and find more huajuan—and maybe that young boy who'd been kind enough to bring him into this world. But this new area of that said world he's in is even more dingy than the kitchen, and it's so much more open and intimidating. For someone so small, he finds himself getting lost—especially when a cat jumps down from a box to sniff at him, startling him out of the alley.
The cat follows, and he's rather scared for a bit, but this baobear is also very curious. He can't help reaching up and wanting to be friends with this cat...and luckily, the cat responds in kind. It purrs and nuzzles into him, eventually even letting him crawl up onto its back. As such, the two travel together to a new part of the world—somewhere not too far away yet all the more beautiful in its open skies, far-reaching expanses of warm, golden sand, and the calm, lapping waves of what the baobear does not yet understand is the ocean. The sun is setting by now, creating a perfect, cozy hue...
Eventually, this tiny bear finds himself staying by the beach, finding a noodles restaurant that's more than happy to take him and his cat friend in. There, he's given clothes and learns more about the world, including finally discovering what his favourite food is called: huajuan! With that new happy tidbit of information gained, he names himself Huajuan after the plush, mildly savoury steamed flower roll dotted with scallions. And as Huajuan continues to venture down to the beach in the evening with his cat friend, now dubbed Mantou, he finds another baobear there. This baobear introduces himself as Cuan, a seabao! And as Huajuan plays and explores with Cuan, he soon also meets Cuan's friend, Honey Boba. They end up making for a very cute, fun trio that hang out whenever they can.
Huajuan finds himself especially happy now, although he does still sometimes dream—somewhat anxiously—of the young boy who steamed him back then, even if he never really got to know him. On those nights, on his makeshift bed of a coaster, with some fluff for his pillow and a towel for a blanket, Huajuan wonders who that boy is and how he's doing. He'd like to go back and see that boy if he could...although he isn't quite sure how to find him. Nevertheless, he hopes he's doing well—just as well as he himself is currently doing with his friends. He dreams that they can sit together on the beach and he'd introduce those friends to the young boy; he'd be sure to share some huajuan with him, and Huajuan likes to think that they'd be great friends, just as he is with Honey Boba and Cuan and all those at the restaurant.
I had a lot of fun with this one! Huajuan is inspired by a li'l jiangshi OC guy I have, and I hope he can make many friends as a baobear too. <333
